We had to get out of Tuscaloosa early today as it is about a 10 hour drive to the Dallas/Arlington area. We made good time and got to the ballpark just as the gates were opening.
Batting practice was uneventful until ARod stepped up and started crushing balls deep into Left Field. A fun feature of the ballpark in Arlington is the grass area that makes up the batters eye. This area is easily accessible from the Center Field stands and security allows people to run out onto it when there is a ball there. This makes for some great melees. Doesn't seem very safe, but it's fun to watch.
There were a lot of Yankee fans as is typical whenever the Pinstripes are in town. The game was back and forth before with the Rangers scoring to take the lead in the bottom of the 8th, but not plating anyone with the bases loaded and no outs.
Akinori Otsuka was brought in to close the game for the Rangers. After getting the leadoff batter out he surrendered a hit to Derek Jeter and then gave up a monster bomb to Jason Giambi to blow the save. Mariano Rivera came in to close the door and send the Rangers home with a loss.
We drove for about an hour after the game and stayed in Corsicana.
